Why not BLACK=NL, WHITE=AL.
That seems to make a lot more sense than the arbitrary date cutoff. - mettle

JP: Believe me, I thought about him, especially as I was trying to decide on a third-baseman for the Black team (that'd be the only position he could fit on this team). My main reason for not including him was that I already took Morgan from the Big Red Machine, and I was trying to diversify. I have Ruth & Gehrig together on the White team, but Morgan & Rose don't seem to be as demanding of the co-honor as those two. Plus, I don't really like Rose, so that played into it as well... but you're right, Rose is the quintessential rook.

Chadillac: Cal is still my all-time favorite player, so I wanted to put him there. But I thought about it, and I think Jeter has kind of surpassed him as the most revered/respected player of recent years. I may not like that as much, but it seems fair. That old 80s O's logo would look plenty nice on that black bishop though, huh? - lar @ wezen-ball

The first player I thought of for the bishop was Cal Ripken, but with Jeter and Clemente, I guess Cal's piece gets left in the box.... - Chadillac

I thought the clearest modern era rook should have been Charlie Hustle! Larry he can still be included in this exercise even though hes out of Baseball. - jpeezypadsfan
