Smile! It's Opening Day!

I've spent a lot of time this weekend trying to figure out what to write here for Opening Day. It's such a fun, exciting, hopeful day, I just couldn't let it go without comment. But, truth is, nothing I could write could capture the excitement of Opening Day quite like this video. Plus, I wrote some thoughts on Opening Day last year, and it's just as true now as it was then:

The sun has come up on another Opening Day, and I couldn't be happier. It's the promise of a new year for everyone, and the first true day of spring. As a baseball fan, it's downright impossible not to be excited about Opening Day and everything that goes along with it: the optimism, the fanfare, the sold-out ballparks, the awakening of an entire city to the sites and sounds of spring. It's a great day.
...
Enjoy the full slate of baseball on tap today, and enjoy it for all it's worth. There are few days on the calendar as hopeful and optimistic as today, as fans of all teams can welcome the spring with open arms (even if the day is full of snow), and I think we owe it to ourselves to enjoy it for all it's worth.

I'll be at Miller Park all day watching Yovani Gallardo, Prince Fielder, and Ryan Braun shut down Ubaldo Jimenez and the Rockies (Yovani vs. Ubaldo? That's quite a pair of names. The most unique on Opening Day?), so I know I'll be enjoying the day to its fullest. I hope those of you attending other games across the country, or just watching the games from your desk at work, have a great day. Baseball's back! It's a great day!
