Note: I'm on vacation until the end of the week, so I won't really have the time to do the regular blog postings. But to keep you all interested - and to continue to introduce any new readers to some of the Wezen-Ball archives (not to mention to re-introduce Google to the new URL of some of my more popular posts) - I've decided to fill the time by Archive Diving. I wish I could give you better, more up-to-the-minute content, but I just can't promise that. I'll try to check in. I hope you find something worth (re-)reading in the meantime.

Earlier this year, the good folks over at Baseball Prospectus put on a fun little contest called "BP Idol". Much like American Idol, the contest was a weekly competition where the contestants would be challenged with a theme. They would then submit a piece on that theme and be graded by the judges. From there, they'd be voted on by the BP subscribers and the lowest vote-getter would be removed from the competition. Eventually, there would be only one person left and he/she would get $1,000 and a weekly gig at BP. It was an exciting idea to me, so I went about writing a submission. When I found out that I didn't make the final cut, I decided that it was a good time to show my submission.

Using the information that is available to us today, including 15 years of hindsight and the complete list of protected players (something supposedly kept secret at the time), I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the 1992 expansion draft. I also threw in some possible free agents, just to sweeten the pot. Take a look: Revisiting the 1992 Expansion Draft.
